Loved the book, wish it had been longer cause I hated to see it end. Even though the idea is not new, the way Shari handled the characters and really threw in twists of different characters kept my interest. Mourning Sun The First Highland Home Novel Shari Richardson 9781460983263 Books Reviews
An exceptionally well written Paranormal Romance. The story is a very intense read about Mairin, a high school student who has special talents. She can sometimes see the future through her nightmares and dreams. She has seen Mathias, a new student at school and she must deal with her feelings for him and the life he has led.
I was impressed with how well the story flowed and how it dealt with the issue of right and wrong.
I look forward to reading more from this author and the series.
"Mourning Sun" is a fast read with well developed characters. A well written plot with lots of emotion, passion and heartache. A metaphysical story that will capture you from the first page. I can't wait to read the rest of the story. I must read for all metaphysical/paranormal(ish)/thriller readers.
This review is based on a complimentary copy which was provided for an honest review.
It was like watching the rerun of Twilight when I started to read the first book of the Highland Home Series and I wanted to stop. But then my conscious kicked in and I said let me see what the author has done differently to the already well known story.
Trapped in a life of dreams, premonitions and reading Auras the young Mairin met a young man with a golden aura, beautiful and caring with a gentleman charm, Mathias. A character any woman could easily fall in love with. But he had a secret.
Through her dreams she learned to know his sufferings, his anguish and pain and had to make a choice. I love the way the author described his feelings of love to the young seventeen year old. She became his sun. His reason to live.
Many people around her wanted to protect her from harm, from that they did not understand. All the characters had good intentions. Mixed with the psychic, a witch, werepanthers, a demigod and an angel.
Making this story an interesting read.
Mourning Sun is a quick easy read that draws you in with an interesting mix of characters. Though it started off a little slow the book really comes to life when Mairin, a girl who is a magnet for all things metaphysical, starts to learn the secrets of those around her. At the center of it all is Mathias, a vampire with a soul, and the love of her life. Unforuntely no one else can see how good he really is-including the angel that her mother is dating-and Mairin lets their judgements and the terrifying dreams that she has about him tear them apart.
Then a werepanther and a demigod burst onto the scene and things get intersting! Xavier, the werepanther, feels a deep sense of responsiblity to keeping the town safe and he thinks Mathias is a threat. Along with a not so nice demigod they go after Mathias.
The end of the book comes quickly-too quickly!-and the reader is left wondering what is going to happen next. When there is a town filled with so much paranormal you know that things are going to get interesting!
I will definitely be checking out Captured Sun, the second book of the Highland Home series, to see what's next for Mairin and Mathias!
Loved the book, wish it had been longer cause I hated to see it end. Even though the idea is not new, the way Shari handled the characters and really threw in twists of different characters kept my interest. Ready to get the next one in the set.
